. . . and we are done

Postby TestGoddess » Sat Jun 21, 2014 5:01 pm

So, looks like we managed to finish the server migration a head of schedule.

As a note:

We have added a mobile theme and auto detection of mobile browsers.

As for tapatalk, everything has been setup on our side and we just need to wait for the DNS records to fully propagate before we can turn it on.

If you have any issues with this new location, please contact us at forums@spectracal.com or you can replay to this thread here.

Hi Melissa,

All seems to have gone well, but it looks like I don't get notifications when I receive PMs anymore.

Its working for me and others here.
I sent you a PM. Let me know if you get an email for it.
If you follow a forum thread, do you get email notifications for that?

Basically, I want to see if its all emails that come from the forums to you or just some.

Melissa,

I'm receiving forum notifications. But an interesting twist is that going straight to this thread from the Admin top forum using the notice link I couldn't post. I had to navigate to the Home Theater forum and going to this thread from there I could now post.

I received your PM and replied to it, but I didn't get any notification.

I didn't receive any notification for the forum threads I follow either.

Sorry, I should have thought of that :)

All the alerts were in my gmail spam folder.

No idea why the messages suddenly got marked as spam after the server change.

I marked them as not spam, hopefully it will do the trick.

By the way I never go to gmail because I get my mail in outlook, so I never really look at the gmail spam folder which is usually quite good at stopping only the nasties.

Maybe you changed the sender's address during the move and it needs to be marked as not spam?

I'll let you know if I have any further issues.

The problem looks like that our new server was sending mail to Gmail's servers using IPv6 instead of IPv4.
The IPv6 address wasn't specified in the SPF record, which is why Gmail put it in your spam folder.

The SPF record has been updated, so this shouldn't be an issue in the future.

How can I sort the Different areas by Date?
Some of the Forums have current postings buried way down the list!

Hi P5,

The threads are sorted by date here, except the stickies which are always first.

Do you mean that threads are in random orders, even past the stickies on your PC?

Dang Google Chrome.
Search all over to Post - then remember - go in with IE! Now I have my PostReply, Edit and Quote Buttons!

Under Meters - ConnecTED has his New Postings, way down the list!
Will have to see if there's a difference between IE and Google Chrome re the sorting.

Found Descending with IE, now he's top of the Topic List.
AVS Forums require Google Chrome since they no longer support IE8 - and then when I go to the Calman Forum things are wrong, missing or ?

Mozilla Firefox works fine. I like it better than IE, YMMV :)

Regarding the edit/quote, I have noticed a very weird behaviour since the move to the new forum: for threads in the announcements forum, like this one, the edit/quote buttons are not always there. I tried with IE 11 in Win 8.1 Pro and with Safari in the latest OS Mavericks update and the behaviour is the same. It takes me a few times getting around the threads before the buttons actually appear. I tried to delete all my cookies but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

I have never noticed this issue in thread not in the announcement forum, but it might just be a coincidence. half the time I come back to this thread, irrespective of the browser/OS used, I have the issue.

Re the thread sorting issue, why don't you try with a more recent version of IE? I don't think you can install IE 11 on win 8.0 (only on win 8.1 and win 7) but you can surely install a version more recent than 8 on any OS, and it will be supported by AVS (they support IE 10 and 11 at least)

Peter & Manni,

We're investigating the issue as well.

We did do a number of things as part of the move:
1. upgraded phpbb3 from 3.0.9 to 3.0.12
2. installed a number of themes
3. added theme switch if mobile browser is detected
4. added tapatalk

(#3 and #4 did require some slight modifications to all themes.)

So it's entirely possible that something may be broken somewhere.

UPDATE #1:

It looks like it may be phpbb3 permissions related.

I made some adjustments to the permission in this forum which should address what are you seeing.

This particular section is more limited that the others. Users can't create threads here, but you should be able to consistently reply to existing posts and quote as well.

Give a yell if you are seeing issues in other areas of the forums.

In with Google Chrome:
It depends on how you go in. These set of Postings: went directly in from Main Menu - No PostReply Button.
Went back out, went into Version 5, then into these Postings. PostReply Button available.
Hopping about between different areas - PostReply in some, not others.
XP is my Main CPU since that's were the Games I like to play are. Maximum IE - 8! (Games can work on other OSs, but to spend 5 to 10 minutes to get them to work - back to XP - back playing immediately!)

Can you give me some more details on how exactly you're getting in? Specifically, what URL do you use and what exact links are you clicking on?

I'm logged in as a test regular user and it seems to be working fine with Chrome and Firefox as well as IE. I have the ability to quote, reply, and edit in the relevant areas.

I think I see what you mean, p5browne, but it's not browser specific.

The News & Announcement forum appears under some of the other forum sections, somewhat like a sticky, and in those locations the permissions are not the same and you won't have access any of those buttons.
